A FRESH PERSPECTIVE FOR
YELLOWSTONE COUNTY COmmission
I love Yellowstone County
My name is Hans Abbey and I love Yellowstone County.
I moved to Billings in the 7th grade and am proud to be a product of Billings Senior High School. I met my wife of 40 years while we worked at Rimrock Mall. Since then, we’ve owned several businesses in the area and raised three great kids here. I’m thankful every day that they got to enjoy the same great parks, friendly neighbors, and community events that I did.
My life’s work has been rooted in building our community. As a local business owner and community leader, I’ve worked with people from every background and every industry to organize events, support families, strengthen nonprofits, and help local businesses grow. Those experiences have shaped how I see the future of Yellowstone County.
Our county works best when we stop thinking in terms of red or blue and start thinking in terms of community - that’s why I’ve chosen to run as an Independent. I’m not running to represent a political party and will never be beholden to party bosses or special interests. When elected, I’ll be in service to the residents of Yellowstone County, from working families to seniors aging in place to young professionals just starting out.
I believe the County Commission needs a fresh perspective focused on proactive leadership and long-term planning. Our county deserves a leader that will put our people before party bosses and special interests.
When I’m elected, I’ll bring a fresh perspective to the county commission with a laser focus on:
Making public safety the county’s first priority and ensuring those resources are funded first.
Planning today for the infrastructure our growing county will need 10–20 years from now.
Strengthening Yellowstone County’s role as the economic engine of Montana.
Promoting our region as the Trailhead of Montana for sports, entertainment, and tourism.

Yes, my campaign is about building a Science Museum in Billings.
Why? Because communities that invest in arts, science, history, and education create better informed citizens. Better informed citizens build stronger neighborhoods, stronger economies, and yes, even reduce long-term public safety costs.
Museums are not luxuries. They are investments in curiosity, creativity, and community identity.
Funding local museums gives kids places to learn after school. It sparks imagination. It teaches the history of Yellowstone County and inspires the next generation of builders, scientists, entrepreneurs, artists, and leaders.

Yellowstone County should use energy wisely, protect taxpayers from unnecessary infrastructure costs, and ensure future growth strengthens our economy without overwhelming our power, water, and transportation systems.
I’m not opposed to data centers. They bring investment and jobs. But Yellowstone County’s water is one of our most valuable resources. Before approving any large water user, we need independent studies, transparent reporting, protection for agricultural producers and rural homeowners, and a guarantee that growth pays for growth. We should never sacrifice our long-term water security for short-term development
